Welsh Slate is on the menu for local playschool

A new charity playschool near one of Welsh Slate’s quarries has had its toy box boosted by the company.

Welsh Slate has donated almost £300 worth of play equipment to Cylch Meithrin in Blaenau Ffestiniog which provides sessional care of a high standard to children between the age of two and school age.

Based in the WI hall in the village, it had registered more than 20 children in its first three months of opening this year. A registered charity run by a management committee of volunteers, it relies on a mixture of grant funding, fees, fundraising and gifts.

Welsh Slate was approached for support by Cylch leader Sioned Rutigliano, who is also the daughter of Gryffudd Rutigliano, production manager of the manufacturer’s nearby Cwt-y-Bugail quarry, who recently celebrated 40 years with the company.

The play equipment donated by Welsh Slate included a poly tunnel, junior chef kitchen, table, building bricks and a model farm.

Sioned said: “We are very grateful for the donation from Welsh Slate for the Cylch. The toys and equipment that have been purchased will be a fantastic addition for the children to learn and play with.”

Welsh Slate’s HSEQ manager Sean Edwards said: “We are always pleased to help local charities.”
