BETHESDA GETS BUSY WITH WI-FI, THANKS TO WELSH SLATE

7 August 2019

Visitors to and residents of Welsh Slate’s home village now have access to free Wi-Fi, thanks in part to the company.

Welsh Slate has donated £1,250 to a community Wi-Fi project set up by the new Bethesda Business Forum in conjunction with Partneraieth Ogwen, a social enterprise working for the benefit of the economy, environment and communities of the Dyffryn Ogwen valley.

The scheme, which has also secured funding from Gwynedd Council’s Digital Gwynedd fund, enables visitors to and residents of the High Street in Bethesda to access free Wi-Fi to enable the group to develop targeted marketing campaigns to promote the valley, its businesses, and tourism and cultural offerings.

Anyone accessing the free Wi-Fi in the village, where Welsh Slate’s main Penrhyn Quarry and headquarters are based, would have to login with their email address and consent to the group sending them newsletters.

Meleri Davies, chief officer of Partneriaeth Ogwen, said: “We see the free Wi-Fi scheme as a catalyst to bring local businesses together to promote our area and are extremely grateful to Welsh Slate for their sponsorship in this matter.”

In return for its commercial sponsorship, Welsh Slate gets a dedicated page on the Dyffryn Ogwen business/tourism website, among other rewards.
