PENRHYN QUARRY HOSPITAL UPDATE

We have recently completed an initial exercise of work at the Penrhyn Quarry Hospital to carefully remove the vegetation from the structure and the trees which sit within and adjacent to the building.

The removal of the vegetation allow us to better understand and survey the condition of the masonry and the wall heads to inform a programme of wider conservation works which we hope to implement in the near future. The removal of the self-seeded trees growing within or on the building will also remove the risk of trees falling during storms or periods of high winds and causing impact damage to the structure.

The works were led by Conservation Architects, Donald Insall Associates, who have been working closely with representatives from Cadw and Cyngor Gwynedd.

The work forms part of the Llewyrch o’r Llechi Levelling Up project led by Cyngor Gwynedd and funded by UK Government. Llewyrch o’r Llechi includes a series of projects aimed to maximise the benefit of The Slate Landscape of Northwest Wales World Heritage Site designation by improving access to, and understanding of the rich heritage and culture of the area.
