Flooring Tiles
Welsh slate has been used for flooring tiles for hundreds of years for domestic and commercial purposes.
The characteristics of the natural slate tiles which made them so popular for flooring include:
Relatively high density - almost impermeable to liquids
Chemically inert - colour-fast and very durable
High compressive flexural stength - very strong material
Range of textures available - natural riven, flamed and fine rubbed (polished)
In practice, Welsh slate flooring tiles will not stain and can be wiped down. The material produces a very durable and colour-fast natural flooring material which is easy to maintain.
UK produced, natural floor tiles have a lower carbon footprint than imported tiles.
Through its aesthetic potential and practical qualities the unique character of slate can be used to create distinctive and naturally beautiful flooring.
