Slate Walling and Paving - Welsh Assembly Government Building, Cardiff

The Welsh Assembly building is a landmark in Cardiff Bay featuring extensive use of Dark Blue Grey walling and paving from Cwt-y-Bugail Quarry.

The large area of external paving leading up from the bay gives the impression of the building rising out of the water.  This paving is seamlessly extended past the glass walls blurring the distinction between the interior and exterior.

The building also features extensive use of pillared slate walling, coursed in 50, 100, 150mm heights and at random lengths.  Combined with the riven flooring, this creates a distinctive textural surface and natural ambience.
