Snowdon Summit Cafe, SnowdoniaWelsh//Slate has risen to the challenge of ensuring Wales' newest landmark building sits comfortably in the landscape that surrounds it by supplying 500m2 of Welsh Granite for the new Snowdonia visitor Centre. The stunning glass fronted building, designed by Furneax Stewart, will be the UK's highest building and its design will not only maximise the peak's views for climbers and tourists but will also minimise its energy consumption. One of the key design requirements for the new building was that it should blend in with the rugged Snowdonia landscape. By supplying Quartzite from Cwt-y-Bugail quarry, a stone indigenous to the area, Welsh//Slate provided main contractor, Hardscape, with a building material that upholds the heritage of the famous peak. Supplied in blocks 215mm, 140mm and 65mm high and 200-600mm long, the granite has been used to clad the walls using bolts and hydraulic lime. In addition to its aesthetic benefits, it will also provide a very durable facade with its excellent weather resistant properties. |
