Slate Roofing - Royal Chelsea Hospital, London

The new 3500m2 extension at the Royal Chelsea Hospital called for slate that was not only high quality and cost effective but could answer the need to lay a "diminishing course" roof and to match the original slate, from the Lake District, on the 17th century building.

Whilst it is now rare for large UK producers to sell random sized roofing slates, this was easily accommodated by using 20" down to 12" random unfading Vermont  Green slate, which provided an excellent match for the adjacent roofs of the old hospital buildings.
