Slate Paving - Caernarfon Town Centre, Wales

Welsh//Slate supplied slate from all three of its North Wales quarries to give Caernarfon's "Y Maes" (square) a facelift.

Sitting at the heart of Caernarfon's historic centre, the square is not only a main thoroughfare for shoppers, it is the backdrop to the town's picturesque medieval castle.

Slates in various sizes ranging from 80x100mm up to 600x450mm in a variety of colours were used to create the square's distinctive design which leads the eye towards Caernarfon castle.

The design uses different sizes and colours of slate to highlight all the separate areas, and also incorporates 60,70,80,90 and 100m² granite setts arranged in a fan-like pattern.
