Architectural products are produced in the following colours:-
Finishes/Textures
Riven/Cleaved
The natural texture of slate when split along the cleavage plane. Typically used for tiles or paving. Roofing slate is only available in natural riven.
Honed/Polished
The slate is mechanically polished to produce a smooth finish. Typically used for worktops or fire hearths.
Flamed
A sawn slate surface is subject to rapid heating (by flame) and cooling by water to give a uniform textured appearance suitable for paving, fire hearths and cladding.
Stippled
The sawn slate surface is distressed mechanically to give a uniformed stippled surface suitable for paving.
Sawn
A smooth finish (not as smooth as honed) typically used for sills, copings and steps.
